Patriot Spirit Vodka Unveils David Sugar's Hand-Engraved Collection for America's 250th Anniversary
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Patriot Spirit Vodka has unveiled the American Milestones Collection, a museum-quality series of hand-engraved crystal artworks by legendary engraver David Sugar. The collection celebrates pivotal moments in American history while highlighting exceptional craftsmanship and the enduring spirit that has shaped the nation.
With America preparing to mark its Semiquincentennial in 2026, Patriot Spirit Vodka has introduced the American Milestones Collection, a remarkable series of hand-engraved crystal artworks created by acclaimed American glass engraver David Sugar. The project represents one of Sugar’s most significant public commissions after years away from major public works.
Developed in collaboration with Patriot Spirit Vodka, the collection features seven individually engraved masterpieces that chronicle defining chapters in American history. Each artwork is crafted entirely by hand, making every piece unique with no possibility of duplication. Before completing the final collection, Sugar created seven artist proofs to refine each design, resulting in subtle distinctions between the proofs and the finished works.
The collection commemorates seven historic milestones: Independence, Constitutional Government, Preservation of the Union, The Birth of Flight, Victory in World War II, Humanity’s First Steps on the Moon, and The American Spirit Endures. Together, these works illustrate the nation’s journey through innovation, sacrifice, resilience, and progress.
Sugar is widely recognized for his exceptional crystal engraving, with works housed in prestigious institutions, including the Smithsonian Institution and the United Nations. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has also created commissioned pieces honoring U.S. presidents, astronauts, and renowned cultural figures.
Reflecting on the project, David Sugar said, “I felt very proud to include the image of the moon landing in this collection. What draws me to these subjects isn’t honoring one astronaut, or even seven. It’s the symphony of people behind them… That harmony of spirit, intention, and yes, patriotism, is what these pieces are really about.”
