Juan Gil Reserva Solera Brandy Makes UK Debut with Monastrell
Bodegas Juan Gil has launched Juan Gil Reserva Solera Brandy, marking the UK debut of the family-owned producer’s first brandy made entirely from Monastrell grapes. Distributed in the UK by Boutinot, the release represents the Gil family’s long-held ambition to create a premium Spanish brandy inspired by the craftsmanship associated with fine Cognac.
Launch Highlights
- Made from 100% organically grown Monastrell grapes from a single estate near Jumilla.
- Grapes are harvested early to preserve freshness and natural acidity.
- Distilled in traditional Charentais copper alembics, similar to those used in the Cognac region.
- Aged for 12 months in American oak, followed by six months in a French oak solera system.
- Bottled without artificial sweeteners or colouring.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Official appearance notes were not disclosed.
- Nose: Red fruits, vanilla and gentle spice.
- Palate: Elegant and balanced with layered fruit and oak influence.
- Finish: Smooth, refined and lingering.
Paco Gil, Fifth-Generation Family Member, Bodegas Juan Gil, said, “This dynamic solera system of ageing allows for a gradual integration of aromatic and structural components and ensures that the final product is a harmonious mix of many years, giving it further complexity as well as consistency year on year.”
The launch arrives as producers look beyond traditional Cognac-style categories and highlight regional grape character and provenance. While the global spirits market remained challenging in 2025, forecasts point to modest growth for the broader brandy category in 2026.
