Bonhams to Auction The Lone Star Collection of Rare Whiskies
Bonhams will present Whiskey Archives: The Lone Star Collection from 18–30 September, featuring more than 400 rare lots. Highlights include a 25-year-old Old Rip Van Winkle, ghost distillery bottlings, and sought-after Scotch and Japanese whiskies. Over half the collection, built over 40 years, will be offered without reserve.
The Lone Star Collection was assembled by a former executive at one of the world’s largest spirits distribution groups, making it both historic and highly personal. Among the treasures is an Old Rip Van Winkle 25 Years Old, distilled in 1989, with an estimated value of US$24,000–32,000. Presented in a handcrafted case and crystal decanter, it is bottle number 283 of just 710 released.
Other notable whiskies include Bowmore Fino Cask 37 Years Old (1964), The Balvenie Vintage Cask 1964, Michter’s Single Barrel 25 Years Old, and the coveted Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016. Rare rums and brandies will also feature.
Sean Purce, senior specialist of fine wines and rare spirits at Bonhams, said: “There are collections that preserve history, and then there are those that rescue it – The Lone Star Collection does both.”
This auction not only offers collectors a chance to secure rare bottles but also brings back to life spirits from distilleries long gone. For enthusiasts, it’s a unique opportunity to connect with liquid history before it disappears into private cellars once again.
