Highland Park Cask Strength Heather Single Malt
Edrington-owned Highland Park has unveiled a limited edition cask strength single malt made using 100% Orkney peat-smoked barley. The release marks the first expression in the distillery’s refreshed cask strength range and is designed to showcase Highland Park’s most intense style yet. Launching exclusively at The Whisky Exchange from 13 January, the whisky highlights the distillery’s deep connection to Orkney’s landscape and peat heritage.
This cask strength release places heathered peat at the centre of the flavour profile. The barley is smoked using peat responsibly sourced from Hobbister Moor, located just a few miles from the distillery in Kirkwall.
Matured in a combination of first-fill European and American Sherry-seasoned oak casks, alongside select refill barrels, the whisky builds richness and depth without masking its smoky core.
Bottled at 63.6% ABV, the expression delivers power while retaining balance. The packaging introduces Highland Park’s updated visual identity, featuring a strong heather motif and a deep purple gradient inspired by the colours of Hobbister Moor in summer.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Bonfire smoke, vanilla pods, and rich brandy butter
- Palate: Oily texture with marshmallow sweetness, macadamia nuts, peppery spice, and floral smoke
- Finish: Long, warming, and smoky with lingering sweetness
“This whisky is a bold celebration of our Orkney peat,” says Marc Watson, master whisky maker at Highland Park. “It was created to push our cask strength style further while staying true to our roots.”
Highland Park Cask Strength: Heather will be available exclusively at The Whisky Exchange from 13 January, priced at £60 (US$81).
